TRADITION IS NOT THE WORSHIP OF ASHES, BUT THE PRESERVATION OF FIRE.

Origins

The Legacy of Narayanpet Sarees

Over 400 years ago, circa,1630 AD. weavers accompanying a royal caravan settled in the area that we know today as Narayanpet, located 70 km from Mahbubnagar in Telangana. And that sowed the seed for its legacy as a weaving center since. The weavers established a distinctive saree-weaving tradition that combined local techniques with influences from their origin.

And that birthed the characteristic Narayanpet saree – lightweight cotton fabrics with unique border designs. The craft has been practiced continuously for nearly 400 years, passed down through generations of weaving families in the region.

The Art of the Narayanpet Weave

Our saree is a masterpiece of textile artistry. Its signature checks, shimmering golden zari borders, and sacred temple-inspired motifs showcase generations of perfected craftsmanship.

What sets it apart:

Natural brilliance: Vegetable-dyed yarns boiled for vibrant, lasting colors
Sacred geometry: Distinctive temple-border patterns woven with precision
Seamless artistry: Innovative interlocking weft technique creates flawless color blocks
Time-honored process: From degumming to handloom weaving, each step is meticulously executed

More than fabric – it’s wearable heritage, where every thread carries the skill of master weavers and blessings of tradition.

A New Chapter: The Rise of Narayanpet Looms

Samvida Charitable Trust

To safeguard the tradition and protect the artisans, the Samvida Charitable Trust stepped in. Recognizing the challenges faced by the community, Samvida took on the mission of reviving the craft while preserving the dignity of its creators. Under its guidance, the weavers came together and rebranded themselves as Narayanpet Looms.
Narayanpet Looms is more than a name—it is a movement. It symbolizes ownership, unity, and pride. This rebranding ensures that the sarees, designs, and heritage remain in the hands of the artisans. No more middlemen exploiting their craft. No unauthorized duplication. Every sale under Narayanpet Looms supports the original creators and strengthens their community.
With Samvida’s support in branding, storytelling, and marketing, the weavers are now reaching conscious buyers not just in India, but around the world. Their income has improved, their art is respected, and most importantly, their legacy is protected. What was once a struggle for survival has now transformed into a celebration of identity.
